Is there additional info explaining the different setup options for the 1723 surrounds? I would like to better understand the two ways this speaker can be wired and the pro’s and con’s for each.

We have some additional info written down in the handbook.
Basically, it will come down to your room and personal preference.
There is no right or wrong and you can easily test it for yourself.
Just disconnect the jumpers between the binding posts and connect the speaker using the lower connection.
With that, the speaker will run in direct-firing mode, like a normal bookshelf speaker without the side drivers.
In the default TriAxial mode, the side drivers are wired out of phase and they create a bigger bubble of sound, but with the addition of the front-facing drivers. So you still have lots of direct sound and not a diffuse mess.
I personally like this setup and especially in smaller rooms, sitting right against the back wall and with close proximity to the speaker.
They will give you the sense of a much bigger sound than a normal bookshelf speaker would.
A normal direct firing speaker will always need the right distance and angle to develop some sense of sound stage.
The same principles as with your front speakers apply.
I agree with Lukas, give it a try but for small rooms triaxial mode performs better than direct firing mode.
I have a 15 m2 dedicated room and I defenitely prefer running the surrounds in triaxial mode.
Dan, Lukas has the proof in the pudding, its up to your judgement but its all about the placement of those massive surrounds. I personally leave the binding posts as is with the clamps in place. That gives me Angles in the surround as it could benefit in a more spacial sound. If your looking for direct sound coming from that speaker then take the clamps out and use just the two posts. My room is 25 x 15 and I place my surrounds and Back Surrounds accordingly as follow, surrounds I have then just about 105’ from my listening area and the surround backs I place them about 150’ and spaced about 3ft from the side walls and about 6ft in between from each speaker.
