Arendal Subs vs SVS Subs

Does anyone have any experience as to whether the Arendal subs are better than the SVS subs as far as definition, distortion, tightness, etc.  Power output is not a concern as I don’t crank the volume way up. Just wandering if I would gain much with an Arendal sub. The SVS was a huge improvement over my Velodyne sub just as the Arendal Monitors were a huge improvement over my Magnat (not imported in the USA anymore) speakers. I’m a sealed sub person and currently using the SVS SB13 Ultra. I am happy with it.

I have dual Powersound Audio V1800s for 7 years and love them. That said they are too powerful for my room and at some point will replace them. I will clearly try out the Arendal as it is a no risk try. With PSA I took the leap of faith and was happy. When I moved to PSA I had been with SVS from back when they basically had only cylinder subs.

A friend looks for a subwoofer with self-calibration.
Do you know any?

I believe I watched a recent video on YouTube, by Audioholics that mentioned the Paradigm Defiance subwoofers have ARC, ie: Anthem Room Correction built in.

Neil:

Yeah that “buy and try” should always be a standard especially in this market because of inflation. I definitely would like to get my hands on the Arendal subs once things are more stable.

Hi Laurence

Thank you for the information. No, I havent checked them out, but will. It may just be me, but even though the Arendals speakers made a huge difference from my old speakers, I’m still wondering if a new sub will sound much different than SVS SB-13 Ultra that is still working great. Just so you know, I was on SVS’s website the other day looking for the upgraded plate amps and didn’t see any. I’m wondering if they discontinued them. Did you feel you gained much by changing from the SVS subs to another brand?

Hi, I have over the years tried alot of subs. REL, XTZ and SVS. I liked them all, but I felt none of them had everything like Arendal. I feel I got more over all. It just suits me better. REL is awsome for music, XTZ and SVS for movies. Arendal for both. Maybe it’s just a personal preference but for the money and all the other things with Arendal. Like service and quality and so on. So buy and try 👊🏻👍🏻

Best

I would like to explore them, but side firing sub does not work for me.

Why doesn’t side-firing subs work for you, Keith?

My Subs are right up against my AV cabinet and flanked by my front speakers. I don’t like the subs in the corners and in this position it creates a nice front stage separation. As it is I use 12db attenuators to keep these 18 inch bad boys tame without over powering the room.

Hi Keith, you don’t have much open space left there! How many centimeters or inches is it between the speakers and the AV cabinet?
