Michael, I have an Emotiva XPA-DR2 driving the 1723 Centre by itself, one channel to the HF, and the other channel the LF (bi-amp). I have never had any problems with excess amplification but on the contrary, problems arise when an amp is driven harder than it’s supposed to be.

In the case of bi-amping the 1723 Monitor THX, the Emotiva XPA2 Gen 2 supplies 500watts per channel into 4 ohms and 300watts into 8 ohms.

I use Emotiva amps to drive my Arendal system. The front left and right 1723 Monitors THX are bi-amped by two XPA 2 Gen 2, each amp driving the low and high frequency of the monitors. A DR2 powers the 1723 Centre THX in the same configuration as the front left and right. Another XPA 2 Gen 2 powers the wide left and right. Two XPA 5 Gen 2 power the six 1723 Height S, two 1723 Bookshelf S THX as back channels, and two 1723 Surround S THX. Another BASx A300 powers an additional two 1723 Surround S THX. I prefer the power and tonality of toroidal amps with the exception of the DR2 that has been added recently. Emotiva have since changed to switched mode power supplies. Furthermore, bi-amping the front soundstage and practically running each channel at 1KW of power, makes an awesome difference about how the monitors and centre sound!!
