What receivers/amplifiers do you use to drive you Arendal setups?

I’m curious, What receiver/preamp/source and/or amplifiers do you use with your Arendal speakers? Have you tested brands that worked better than others? I’m curious to know what you guys are using!

I’m using a Yamaha RX-A2060 to power a pair of 1961 Monitors and a 1723 Sub 1v and it sounds great! I might add a dedicated amplifier down the line if I get something bigger, but I definitely don’t feel like I’m missing much with my current setup.

That sounds awesome. I can call you again if you want.

I use Emotiva amps to drive my Arendal system. The front left and right 1723 Monitors THX are bi-amped by two XPA 2 Gen 2, each amp driving the low and high frequency of the monitors. A DR2 powers the 1723 Centre THX in the same configuration as the front left and right. Another XPA 2 Gen 2 powers the wide left and right. Two XPA 5 Gen 2 power the six 1723 Height S, two 1723 Bookshelf S THX as back channels, and two 1723 Surround S THX. Another BASx A300 powers an additional two 1723 Surround S THX. I prefer the power and tonality of toroidal amps with the exception of the DR2 that has been added recently. Emotiva have since changed to switched mode power supplies. Furthermore, bi-amping the front soundstage and practically running each channel at 1KW of power, makes an awesome difference about how the monitors and centre sound!!

Recently moved from yamaha rx-a3080 to anthem mrx 1140.  There is a significant improve in the bass management and also there is a feeling that the anthem is “pushing” the speakers in a better way.

@Shlomi

What do you mean by improvement in the bass management? Does the Anthem have different features, or do you mean the room calibration?

Hi lukas.

I have been a fan boy of yamaha for almost 14 years
Unfortunately there was not much improve over the years in the room calibration of yamaha known as “yapo”.
The room calibration of the anthem, known as “arc gensis” is much more advanced and superior to the “ypao”, it got phase correction which according to my ears improve the integration with the sub.

The gui of the “arc gensis” is also a good improvent over the “ypao”.

Hi Shlomi,

I absolutely agree. ARC is superior to YPAO.
But for someone who just does manual correction, Yamahas PEQs are really good, coupled with great reliability. Also here in Germany where I live Anthem is much more expensive.

I agree, it is more expensive.

The peq  in the yamaha and also on my 2s subwoofer was great, I used it wirh rew eq.

On the other hand I think the anthem is next level.

I am currently pushing 1723 towers and center with an old Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver. Speakers sound great. If I add an Emotiva XPA  gen3 3 channel Amp will there be a noticeable improvement?  Just trying to get some input from someone that has done something similar. Hate to spend the money and be disappointed. Thanks

To the person who is bi-amping, When you bi-amp does it change the wattage power limit? 400W at 4ohm for low end and whatever the 8ohm conversion of 400w for the high end is? Thinking about adding a separate amp for the high end.

In the case of bi-amping the 1723 Monitor THX, the Emotiva XPA2 Gen 2 supplies 500watts per channel into 4 ohms and 300watts into 8 ohms.
