I am quite sure that for 1961 it does not matter as both speakers in the box are identical.

This would only make a difference if the surrounds could be set-up as di-pole or bi-pole which 1961 don’t have that option to switch.

Just to check, you’re not getting the phantom center effect where the sound feels like coming from the middle and instead you are hearing left and right speakers individually?

I would say depends on what I am listening to but in most part louder is quite nice :) However, if something is mixed badly this can cause issues. I’ve watched movies where 40% of the movie was really silent thus you had to bring he volume up and then it got so loud it was physically painful to listen to.

I mean I listen at maximum of -10dB MV on the receiver when watching UHD blu-rays and I can tell that my Arendal speakers can easily go MUCH MUCH higher if I asked them to :D

At that size room, I don’t think the full fat 1723 would be necessary. Slightly smaller 1723S should be able to provide a bit more flexibility if you will be getting a custom cabinet made.

What are you room dimensions if you don’t mind me asking?

Will there be a cabinet below the projector and the screen? Do you have any pictures to better help visualise your setup?

A friend of mine placed their 1723 standing up and the projector on top. Not ideal but it’s not too bad:

I would definitely avoid the center speaker being placed on the ground.

Is there any way you could have the speaker behind the projector screen?

I really think 1961 speakers are highly underrated. For their size the output that they provide is just amazing!

It’s rather easy to make a big speaker sound big, it’s much harder to do the same with a small one.

I agree with Miko.

However, Arendal 1723 & 1961 speakers are both THX rated thus have a serious drop off in FR after 80HZ (as per THX spec) and will need to be paired up with a subwoofer for full experience. If you’re getting monitors or bookshelf speakers the the difference in low end won’t be that significant as day and night. However if your getting the towers well that’s a different matter.

Since you’re getting power amps for all of the speakers I’m assuming you have a large space thus 1723 most likely be better. More info would help to advice.

I would say it would the room size and the layout you got. I went for a mix of 1723S and 1961 which has worked really well for me. I used 1723S for my front stage the left center an right speakers. For my surrounds and heights I used 1961 since their compact size allowed for really easy placement and flexibility.
