Shipping is not free to my country. Also import taxes are non refundable so trying and returning is a very expensive experiment. I decided to go with 1723 Monitors for surrounds and 1723 Surrounds for back surround duties and I’m very happy with the outcome. The sound is perfect and real life sized. I don’t think I would be as satisfied if I went with four 1723 Surrounds.

Also, the new Dirac feature for room calibration (ART) can make use of the large surround monitors to improve the room acoustics. That is a bonus I might benefit from when it is time to upgrade my processor.

I tried the 1723 S bookshelf speakers then returned them and got the 1723 monitors. There is noticable difference in the size of the sound  and impact between the 6.5 inch and 8 inch drivers. In addition to the 3 subwoofers I already own, I expanded the system to 7 speakers and I’m very happy with the outcome.

Thank you Luis for this remark. I will make sure to put a cloth in between.

Thanks Lukas. What you said is what I’m planning to do. My current speakers location is different than the subwoofers’ location and I will start with the current one. If moving the location to be above the subwoofers and that doesn’t not degrade the sound quality then will select it.

Yes, clear. Thank you Lukas.

I have 3 Arendal subs so things are in favour of the monitors still.

Thank you Carlos for sharing your experience. When comparing the 1723 Tower S with the 1723 Monitor it is tempting to lean toward the 4×6.5 inch drivers of the towers since they are equivalent to two 9 inch drivers which seems better than the 2×8 inch drivers of the monitor. But from the comments I read the 1723 monitors with their 8 inch drivers will probably give more details and forward sound which appeals to me more.

Thank you Lukas for replying.

The tweeter kicks in around 1.5 kHz according to the crossover setting so you mean the 1723 monitors will have a more direct sound in the range of 1kHz to 1.5 kHz compared to the 1723 S towers? And everything else is the same.

Thank you Lukas, I will check the links you sent and also found reviews on youtube for he proper placement of the 1723 Surround speakers that I will go through.

Thank you Lukas for your input.

Regarding the Surround S and its TriAxial design, due to the lack of visual illustrations and detailed info about how they are better than regular speakers I feel like stepping into unknown territory. I read in many reviews that current object-based surround favours regular speakers and that will produce better results compared to bipoles and dipoles.

TriAxial? I don’t know. I read the whole manual and there is not enough info to make me try them. For example, the manual says 2 of them can be excellent for Atmos but not 4 in which regular monopoles are better. OK, what if I got Surround S now for surround duties and later added another pair for back surround duties will that work or is it like the Atmos case? What if I decided to get bookshelves for one of the duties then will mixing both types is better or sticking to monopoles?

I’m a visual guy, and I hope Arendal can produce some illustrations that show the sound field of the TriAxial design and how is it better compared to monopoles, bipoles, and dipoles. Also, showing when it is best to use these speakers under different mixes with other models in multiple settings like 5.1.2, 5.1.4, 7.1.2, and 7.1.4 would be very helpful.

If such info already exist and I’m not aware of then kindly point me to where I can get them in order to make a better purchasing decision.

Best regards,

Addas
