Parasound vs Emotiva

Hans Erik Sæbø

Hi!

any opinions on parasound vs emotiva for Arendal speakers? I have a emotiva xpa-dr3 for the lcr today but I’m considering switching to parasound because I have a halo a51 on hand for a good price!

any input would be much appreciated:)

cheers:)

I totally agree with Laurence. This is what you prefer, what you like. Go with your instinct.

I actually have been looking at the XPA-DR3, haven’t made the purchase yet. but I have been using the  OSD X5180 5 channel amp to drive 1723 Monitor THX. all 5 of them. I think All channel driven is like 135 into 8ohm, considering the 1723 can dig down to 4 ohm. I have never felt like i needed more power. for majority of the content i watch, i never had to go below -15 on the receiver. most of the content that i watch i stay between -25 to -15 on the marantz. fills the room (16x19x9) with good volume without any issues or any discernible sound quality. I have tried the Emotiva BasX A3 with LCR and probably wouldn’t be able to tell much of difference.

XPA-DR3 would probably benefit more with a processor with differential out like the RMC-1, i think that one is differential… Again if you’re able to enjoy the sound, quality and be immersed in the content, its all that matters, everything else just disappears :D

I never had the opportunity to listen to Emotiva’s newer amps, I originally had the Emotiva XPA-2 and XPA-5 Gen 1 amps with their UMC-1; both were neutral sounding to me and simply got out of the way.  I sold the amps and traded in the UMC-1 for the XMC-1; purchased the same amps but their Gen 2 models… didn’t do any side by side comparisons, but I felt the same with the Gen 2 amps… neutral and never strained when pushed.  Fast forward to today, I’m in the process of deciding on which way to go with Arendal speakers (1961 vs 1723s), but just purchased the Marantz Cinema 50; to my ears this AVR is on the warmer side of neutral… very enjoyable.
