Speaker placement

I have a question on speaker placement, rears in this case.

The speakers for a ideal placement should be where the lamp is.
But as you can see there is a channel from the fireplace sticking out the wall which blocks the sound of sides.

Currently it has been as it currently stands.

Just wondering if you would advice something else, like maybe hang them on the channel.

This would be a 40cm in front of the seating position.

Any advice?

Maybe this drawing helps a bit for clarification

From the picture, it seems like you have the 1961 surround?   You might be able to use a TV swivel mount to place the speaker into the proper position, but it’s tough to see due to the pictures / drawing you posted.  Can you take a couple of pictures from inside the room and capture the seating position and that section of the room?

Something like this – https://amzn.to/3KPtL46

Hi Norman,

I think you have the best compromise right now. Maybe a little higher would be better. The mount that Luis posted will work. I would not place the speakers in front of the listening position. This will sound worse.

Hi Lukas & Luis,

Ok good to know, so no placement in front.
What would the ideal height be?

Ear height or a bit higher?

I like to have the speakers around 30-50cm above ear height.
With that everyone on the couch will hear some direct sound and that is not blocked by the person sitting next to it.

100% agree with @Lukas… I also prefer my surrounds above ear height.

Here’s what I’d do. Move the couch forward so it’s away from walls.

I have put the surrounds now 60cm above ear height in line with the listening position.
I hanged them by a screw to the wall, so they are straight against the wall.

Is this ok or should they angle down?

Hi Norman,

Against the wall should be absolutely fine.

If you prefer a more direct sound you can angle them down with an appropriate wall mount.
