Current movies with great sound

Hey guys,

I kind of feel there are not so many new movies released with better than average sound.
Most of them are okay but lack, especially dynamics.
They sound like they were mastered for your TV and soundbar and not for a great home-cinema experience.
Basically all Marvel/Disney movies fall into that category.

What current releases stood out to you?

My last two were:

Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2021
A nice and mellow family film with great sound design. A typical Sunday afternoon movie.

Last Night in Soho 2021
A very dynamic soundtrack, sometimes even too dynamic. Nothing for people living in apartments:)
The movie was okay, nothing extraordinary.

Looking forward to your experiences.

This might sound odd to some but I find that upmixing content to Auro 3D has made many releases for me much more enjoyable.

I’ve heard many good things about Dune but have not seen it yet, since I’m half way through the book and want to finish it first before I watch the movie.

I’ve heard Interstellar has some good dynamics even though I have not heard it myself.

I’ll try watching as suggested Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Last Night in Soho ;)

I watched Interstellar last week with my Arendal Sound 7.1 (1723 monitors, 1723 surrounds and 1723 sub 1V) and I was totally impressed by the sound, It’s a good movie to test the sub, I hope I can get a second 1723 sub 1V soon!

I personally don’t like upmixing the Sound. (not even with a Trinnov processor)
I find that it robs a lot of special detail and dynamics.

Dune has indeed good sound design and Interstellar is just gigantic sound.
A lot of people with less capable systems were complaining about Interstellar.
It can get harsh really fast.

Ford vs Ferrari is a great track as well, highly recommended!  The early versions of the Marvel moves are pretty good (non-Atmos).  Iron Man and Iron Man 2 with their BluRay tracks are quite good.  Adam Project on Netflix is probably the best streaming audio track I have heard to date, definitely worth a look!

What do you mean by not mixing tracks?

I recommend “A Quiet Place Part II” I love the first part of action to try the sub and surrounds.

The Greatest Showman highly recommended as well.

@Ramon
I don’t like using upmixers like Auromatic, Dolby Surround or DTS Neural:X.
I use always the native track.

Quiet Place 1+2 are great (the first one especially).
The greatest Showman I still have to watch.

@James
Absolutely agree with the older Marvel BluRays and Ford vs Ferrari.
Have to check out The Adam Project then.

Invasion on Apple TV especially the opening seen.

Lone survivor : The first shot in the opening gun battle

Gravity: The whole movie every speaker was alive.

A Quite Place: The bass just came out of no where. First one I watch with both subs hook up. Since the movie is so quiet just didn’t expect it.

The shallow: Lots of dynamic range

The Martian: The whole opening scene.. Especially when the rocket tooknoff

If you really want to tax your speakers and subwoofers Blade Runner 2049 is a great movie and ATMOS track is phenomenal.

@Bradon
Of course, this one I have at home:)

Most of the movies I already have seen.
I was thinking more about movies that were just released this year.
