Current movies with great sound

Hey guys,

I kind of feel there are not so many new movies released with better than average sound.
Most of them are okay but lack, especially dynamics.
They sound like they were mastered for your TV and soundbar and not for a great home-cinema experience.
Basically all Marvel/Disney movies fall into that category.

What current releases stood out to you?

My last two were:

Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2021
A nice and mellow family film with great sound design. A typical Sunday afternoon movie.

Last Night in Soho 2021
A very dynamic soundtrack, sometimes even too dynamic. Nothing for people living in apartments:)
The movie was okay, nothing extraordinary.

Looking forward to your experiences.

@Luis

Thanks for the tip with To Catch A Killer. Will watch it today. Looks cool in the trailer.

John Wick Chapter 4… Watched my copy… and… I might have to watch all 4 this weekend!!

From the opening scene until the very end… this chapter doesn’t disappoint… plenty of ear and eye candy throughout.

“Abandon all hope, you who are about to enter here…you are now in the presence of theKING!

Wth, JW4 is already available on uhd? Nice :D

At least that means i only have to wait a few months until release in Europe… it’s something ^^ Your feedback sounds promising, looking forward to it.

I enjoyed John Wick 1, 2, and 3, but the franchise has now become a caricature of itself. He fights I don’t know, 50 guys in Japan and it’s nice of them to all wait their turn to fight him one or two at a time instead of just shooting him. It was OK and the fight choreography was slick, but it was about an hour too long IMHO. From humble beginnings as straight up action movies to the convoluted mythology of the whole assassins guild. Yeeesh. Just one man’s opinion. You do you bro 😎

Yes John Wick 4 was far fetched, as were the other three movies.  However it is fiction(no these movies aren’t based on a comic, actually the comics are based on these movies), so just part of screenwriter Derek Kolstad’s imagination.  Just like the off-shoot material “The Ballerina” will be and the series based on “The Continental” will be.  It’s just entertainment and the audio and video have turned out to be top notch reference material to boot.  Glad I’ve bought all of the 4K UHD-Blu-ray’s as well.

Consider just using a VPN and downloading the torrents like I do. The MKV files are 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos. Many times available before they are available any place else . PC HDMI to the Marantz and It saves me a ton of money instead of buying a movie that turns out to be just so so.  MPC video player can be configured to output all of the surround codecs. I’ve got over 20 TB of content that you only have to double click on to play :)

Isn’t what you are suggesting by downloading torrents, illegal?

Well… if you want to get all super legal… but I don’t think Interpol has put out a red notice for me ;) let’s put it this way, I have Amazon prime, Netflix, and all the other things, but I choose to download the things that I’m already paying for since I don’t like streaming 🤷

Regardless, using a VPN is just smart because it hides your IP and reduces virus vulnerabilities and you can’t get things like ransomeware

Hbo’s Chernobyl have a good surround track with choppers, sirens and howling music.

I have the 4k disc its stunning, and i think its one of the best series ever made.
