Current movies with great sound

Hey guys,

I kind of feel there are not so many new movies released with better than average sound.
Most of them are okay but lack, especially dynamics.
They sound like they were mastered for your TV and soundbar and not for a great home-cinema experience.
Basically all Marvel/Disney movies fall into that category.

What current releases stood out to you?

My last two were:

Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2021
A nice and mellow family film with great sound design. A typical Sunday afternoon movie.

Last Night in Soho 2021
A very dynamic soundtrack, sometimes even too dynamic. Nothing for people living in apartments:)
The movie was okay, nothing extraordinary.

I usually dislike or avoid movies such as Conjuring… however A Quiet Place actually make good use of the sound and bonus, no spooky ghost jumping in my face :D. PS, I’m on with aliens.

When I demo these scenes to my friends, they usually ask me to pump the volume up and then when the action kicks in, their facial expression is :D.

A dynamic soundtrack will add a lot to the overall movie experience and A Quiet Place is a perfect example.

It has very quiet atmospheric sounds, you feel like you are in that world, and a second later the sound basically explodes. This is how it should always be.

I started watching some HBO shows and I am surprised at how good the sound is.

The White Lotus – constantly very dynamic and spacious music. Lots of drums.
Just finished season one and excited for season 2.

The Last of Us – one of the best recent shows. I am at the beginning but the sound seems very promising.
You really feel enveloped in the sound.

@Lukas agreed… The Last of Us had a pretty good enveloping sound track.  Haven’t seen The White Lotus yet, so I’ve added it to my list of shows to watch.

Thanks for sharing @Jimmy Lindgren, I added Night agent to our Netflix list.

We just watched season 1 and 2 of Castle Rock; the soundtrack was rather good… the eerie effects scared my wife a few times and sent our dog running into the hallway barking as he thought something was out there.  The show itself was ok, entertaining yes, but certainly not award winning.  For a streamed show, I thought it sounded pretty good.

Yes… I watched it via Netflix and it had a very good soundtrack!  It’s available via 4k UHD BR now.
