Ultra Short Throw Projector and 1723 THX Center speaker

Hi,

while I am waiting for my 1723 THX Center to arrive in June, a question came to my mind and probably one of you might have an opinion here.

I am planning to replace my current 75″ TV by an Ultra Short Throw Projector, probably the Sony VPL-VZ1000ES.

As the 1723 THX Center is relatively huge, I was wondering if anyone of you is also using such a projector in combination with that center speaker and could tell me about how you have placed this under the screen.

I have seen solutions with the center speaker nearly based on the ground and the projector above – is that really recommendable? I am used to have a speaker right below the screen – would be great to get some opinions.

Thanks a lot, have a nice day

Sven

The problem with mounting a UST to the ceiling in a normal living room is u would have to turn the CLR screen around which would  result in not filtering  the Ambient light from the ceiling. also there is a fixed distance between  porjector and start of screen which would lead to a high mounted screen depending on  Ceiling height. A CLR Screen reflects light at 45 °  so u dont want it mounted to high as it would probably result in u seeing the “Dark” part of the screen.

In a Black room i dont see a problem, there u can also use a normal screen typ

Hi, I have a dedicated HT/listening room so WAF not an issue. As you hopefully can see, I have mine sitting on my equipment console at ear height right below Hisense 120 inch projector.Hope this might be an option for you.Sounds awesome!

Hi Sven,

How did this turn out for you? Did you stay with ust or decide a different direction. In my room I wanted the ust as I did not want the image coming from the back of my room, the ust allowes me to have family and friends standing in the room with the game or music video playing. I set up my 1723 center above and just in front of the ust. This was a win win for me as the ust is perfectly placed for image, and the center is as perfect as possible without being behind the screen.  In terms of sound quality, I keep my vents open and having the speaker above and in front of the ust is the best place in my room for sound quality (for my ears, perfect distance from wall). For anyone thinking about a ust, this is another option.

If possible and if you have the room, you can try mounting the UST projector behind and below the center channel.  Not my setup, but something like this:

I have put the idea of using an UST on hold for the moment and might replace my current tv with a bigger one. The room size simply is too small for a good setup with projektor.
