Receiver or Preamp?

Hello,

Now to the next interesting question. What are your thoughts, do you already have a preamp/power amp,if so did they make such a big difference or did you just become poorer.

Those of you who have a receiver are you now considering switching to pre/power amp or are you satisfied? Your thoughts about this.

Own a Marantz receiver myself, only had the opportunity to try pairing it with emotive xpa 3 and xtz edge a-300. However, I ended up going back to just the Marantzen. What do you think, is the next step preamp+power amp or is a receiver sufficient?

Well it would be excellent to save some big bucks for one of my other hobbies! I appreciate the info. I do have the new Marantz AV10 and the AVM90 on my short list that Rounds out with the Trin and Storm. I’m thinking my side by side will be the AVM 90 vs the Storm… would be great to send the Storm back. While my room is large enough for multiple rows of theater seats. 95% of the time I’m alone listening and watching. So single row and only one pair of side surrounds is needed. Thanks for the reply, Lukas!

The neverending quest to find audio nirvana! I plea guilty as charged and might participate in buying a massive amount of tickets to win the eurojackpot 😁

It may be anathema to some, I’ve always been drawn to high end integrated amps and not had a need for separates, just me. The AM/FM  portion is not important to me either. In these modern times, the audio technology has become extraordinary. Best thing to do is try some out that have a return policy, and of course, money can affect the decision. I’ve seen people who spend too much money on the electronics and what’s left on speakers, then argue it all sounds the same. Also consider diminishing returns.

Agree it’s a balance.  I’ve read a good guideline is 50% of the system budget on equipment and 50% on speakers.  In my experience the equipment is easier to get right in a room and it’s getting the speakers right that takes more time and auditioning.

Since we are on this forum, we would probably have to agree, we have one side of the 50% correct. Now, it’s time to demo some equiptment to finish the search. I’m happy with what I have. Every week somebody comes out with “better”. I just want to enjoy my music, it gets tiresome thinking something is so much better than what we currently have. You can buy equipment until the day you die and will never achieve perfection. It would be nice to think we are close enough and just enjoy the experience. Just my feeling.
