Good question.

For me, I like things “nicely loud”, but not reference level. Using only a simple iPhone app, I’d say I don’t push my system beyond peaks of maybe 90db (approx).

Too quiet, and I don’t feel enveloped in the content.
Too loud, and I feel I’m more focused on the volume than the content.

Bear in mind that I have a tiny room. ;-)

When I am watching movies I think I am around -15 to -10 MV. Which to my ears in my room is pretty loud. If my room was fully treated it might be a different story.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Higher volumes seems to make the imaging better so for me crank it up…. but not too loud. I’m usually at around -36 when people are home and -25 when they are gone.</p>

I like lower/medium volumes, somewhere around 70-75 decibels. The Arendal speakers have so much detail they don’t need to be turned up really loud. My old ears can’t handle high volumes for long. My music sessions are usually 2-3 hours at a time. There are certain songs I just can’t help myself and have to twist that knob just a little further.

I’m like the Maxwell tape guy in the picture getting blown away (unfortunately without the Butler for those who remember the commercial).  Crank up mostly classic rock.  Want to hear and feel the music. My Dad always told me to turn down my music and now my kids do!  That’s why I just ordered the 1723 Tower S for my listening room. I’m ready to rock!
