Arendal Subs vs SVS Subs

Does anyone have any experience as to whether the Arendal subs are better than the SVS subs as far as definition, distortion, tightness, etc.  Power output is not a concern as I don’t crank the volume way up. Just wandering if I would gain much with an Arendal sub. The SVS was a huge improvement over my Velodyne sub just as the Arendal Monitors were a huge improvement over my Magnat (not imported in the USA anymore) speakers. I’m a sealed sub person and currently using the SVS SB13 Ultra. I am happy with it.

Now that I own the Arendal 1723 S2, I am going to say wow, what an amazing subwoofer.

Congrats Ralph!

Yeah, this is a little wolf in sheep’s clothing!

Looking innocent, but can be a beast if you allow it…

Thank you for your support over the years Ralph!

I just got a pair of SVS SB 3000’s today. All things considered I’d rather have the Arendal, but it’s too big for my living room the way things are configured, and I have what stereo people call the immovable wife factor. She thinks the cabinets on the SVS are too big. I’d never hear the end of it if I had a subwoofer three times the size.

Neil, Have you bought your subs yet?  I recently bought a pair of SVS SB 1000 PROs.  Needed a small sub for each front corner wall with my setup and they have a small footprint and can rock with an 12 inch cone in a sealed unit, 325 watts and a great app I run through my tablet.  Open-box deal for $900 with a full 5 year warranty.  They have a 45 day buy and try trial period and will pay for return shipping.  No experience with Arendal subs but I’m sure you’ve seen the great reviews and have experienced their buy and try policy and customer service.  Both are great companies to buy from.

Hi Arkmann

I have the SVS SB13 Ultra for about 7 years now. I just can’t get myself to buy something else unless it would crap out on me. It is a very good sub. I’m sure there are better but it’s not easy spending big money when I have a good sub.  I’ve thought about going all in and buying a Perlisten sub but wonder if it would be worth it. I’m sure the Arendal subs are excellent but have my own reasons for holding off trying one.

Hi Neil, Agree SVS makes great subs and if it’s working for you it makes sense to hang onto it until you have to make a change. Enjoy!

Yes Arkmann that’s my thought. The other part of it is, on the used market, it probably wouldn’t bring me very much money. 1) people probably assume they have been abused, mine has never been because I hate really loud music. 2) So much equiptment/speakers are scratched, nicked, etc, mine is not. I had a company make a custom fit, padded, thick nylon cover, roughly about $100.00  I did this because no chances were going to be taken with my cat and dog. It’s just hard giving up something I have about $1800.00 in to only get peanuts for. Well, sorry for the long diatribe. I wonder how anyone else feels about this subject? You can carry this over to the main speakers and other electronics as well. Sad part is, I have another complete system that sounds 90% as good as the one now and would like to sell it off very reasonable but everyone is either not into audio around me or wants the latest and greatest. So, it just sits packaed away. Thank you Arkmann, take care.

Neil,  bummer you have to sit on quality equipment you’ve taken good care of.  Have you tried eBay or other online sites to try and sell?   I see quite a bit of used equipment online.  The buyer usually pays for any shipping if not picked up.  I haven’t done it yet myself.  Hope it helps.  Good luck!

I get what you mean Arkmann and you are correct. My only thing is what would someone be willing to pay on shipping about 125lbs. The strangest part of it all, is I’m not able to find anyone in my area that remotely cares about audio equipment. Their phone is all they need. I remember the day, many people loved to sit and listen to music. Many times I feel all alone in this “hobby”. My wife is not into it either. The only ones who sit with me are my cats, but hey, they are great company. Critics no. Than you Arkmann, I enjoy our conversing.

Neil I hear you and have the same experience when it comes to this hobby.  The guys I know that are really into listening to music either don’t have the money or don’t want to spend the money on high-end equipment.  Listening to music on their phones and/or on lower-end Bluetooth or wi-fi speakers seem to be good enough.  That’s what’s driven me to get on chat groups like this one even though I was never big on social media.  Great to connect and share with people like you that love this hobby enjoy!
