This is an excellent, cohesive and fully capable speaker system. It has held up to the test of time in the market and still is a reference system to beat. It didn’t try to cheat physics with its dimensions and shows that heavy, big enclosures paired with quality componentry creates an engaging sound.
Here in the UK, a year or two after Arendal Sound came to market, I found myself moving into the home I am in now and was on the prowl for a larger than life 5.1 setup. Dolby Atmos was just about grabbing hold and I hadn’t won the argument for speakers in the ceiling. My American heritage and knowledge of North American audio brands was strong, European companies like Arendal Sound; however, were uncharted territory. It was shortly after buying my American based system that I became a member of this forum. In the threads, I found multiple references to quite a few interesting European brands and one that kept appearing was, you guessed it, Arendal Sound. I had to hear these! Unfortunately, with the company’s direct to customer model, there was no shop for me to experience them in. The next best thing happened however, a forum member had their subwoofers installed and offered a listen. The subwoofers he had were Arendal’s 2S model and they sounded really, really good. In the end, I purchased four of them and they form part of my current reference system…
If I was starting again, with a similar budget to what I had then knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t hesitate in picking these up. The dynamics they have are perfect for watching films and the very capable subwoofer and surrounds creates a bubble that is so addictive, you find yourself looking for excuses to re-watch things. 2-channel music is similarly addicting. Couple that with the excellent company ethos and support, great 60-day try before you buy option where they cover shipping, and a 10 year warranty…
