We have a wrap around couch that follows the wall that is roughly 10 feet away from the tv & front speakers. The towers are towed in so that the center of the couch is the primary listening position. Sound definitely gets lost in the openness of the room, but luckily we don’t have much issue with any echoing.
Depth of sound, immersion. I really wanted a cinema-level experience. I had some old hand me down Bower & Wilkens that were mostly ok, but you could feel the lack of depth in the sound. I really wanted to take that next step. Audio is so incredibly important to me, it’s something that can absolutely transform your entire movie watching experience.
Dialogue clarity was probably one of the more important goals we wanted to solve for. Some media has a horrible problem with the voices getting drowned out by the rest of the sound in the scene. When it comes to bass extension, I absolutely love feeling it. And this is what the 1v subwoofer does so well. It delivers that punch without taking over and drowning out everything else.
Watching reviews on various speakers as I was looking to upgrade from what we had. Ended up finding some YouTube reviews around 2021 / 2022.
As for a specific channel, I don’t unfortunately. There weren’t a lot of videos about Arendal out back then, and I’m pretty sure I watched every video I could find multiple times. I definitely scoured the A/V forums as well looking for any and all reviews I could find.
I was about ready to purchase a full B&W 600 series setup. It was around the price I was looking to spend, and the audio quality sounded reasonably good, plus both my dad and I have had fairly good experiences with the brand. Something in me just didn’t feel quite right, and I ended up finding reviews about this company I had never heard of before, Arendal. The reviews were fantastic, but there weren’t many of them yet. It was almost immediate that it just started to feel like yes, this is the right product for me.
I try to research as much as I can, so after months of going back and forth I finally made the decision and purchased the two 1723 S THX towers & the 1723 S THX center channel along with the 1723 1V subwoofer. It wasn’t long until I completed the setup with adding the 1723 S THX Surrounds.
I was immediately blown away by the sound coming out of these speakers. The sound was rich and immersive. After getting the initial 3.1 setup in place, it wasn’t long before I could really tell something was missing. The surrounds instantly fixed it!
I smile every time I turn on the TV. It doesn’t matter if it’s a TV show or Movie we’re streaming where the audio is compressed and not the best quality, or if it’s a 4k disc, these speakers make every experience immensely enjoyable.
The build quality is also phenomenal, I don’t think anything in this price range even comes close.
The performance and sound quality by far. It absolutely blew me away what I was hearing. There’s expensive things I’ve bought in the past that I was initially happy with and eventually regretted. This is NOT one of them. I smile every time I get to listen to them. They bring me joy, true joy, and I think that’s a very rare thing.
The front soundstage sounded excellent, but I could just tell that it was lacking something. Flat isn’t quite the right way to describe it, but almost empty. As soon as I added the surrounds it just filled in the empty air immediately. The sound envelopes you now, instead of just hitting you from the front. It’s a wonderful experience. I have similar feelings about not currently having height speakers, so that’s the next thing I would like to tackle. I already know they’ll be the 1723 heights. It’s just a matter of when, not if, the budget allows.
Happy doesn’t begin to express how pleased I am with these speakers. I smile every time I watch something. Even after years of ownership, almost every movie we watch I look over to my wife and say “did you hear that”, “did you feel that”, “this sounds amazing”.
I try to research a lot before buying anything. The fact I couldn’t go anywhere and listen to these before hand is what really held me back. It was a bit of a leap of faith pulling the trigger on them, but it was so worth it. If anyone is on the fence, just do it. You won’t regret it.
Also, the customer experience and your support is second to none. I’ve had a couple questions regarding system setup, speaker layout, and everyone I spoke to took the time to give me real advice. That’s not something you really see anymore, and it’s part of why you now have a customer for life from me.
Another story, our house was struck by lightning a few months after getting everything setup. Unfortunately it even killed the control panel on the back of our sub =(. I reached out and spoke with Gunnar who was very sympathetic and offered to sell me a new panel. I ultimately decided not to buy one (it’s an expensive piece, but I get it, no knock on you guys for that), because I could still control the sub through the app just fine. But I did appreciate him taking the time to listen to what happen, and offer a solution that could get the sub back to its original condition.
