In general, we recommend that you have at least 10cm (4 inches) between your subwoofer’s driver and the closest surface, like a wall or sofa.
Placing your subwoofer near a wall/corner will better allow it to couple with the room, which will amplify the deep bass in your space. This is an efficient way to boost bass response and especially in the deepest bass.
Placing your subwoofer farther from a wall will reduce room coupling, so you lose some output in the deep bass. If it is placed closer to the listening position, however, you will have more of the direct sound of the subwoofer, and less of the reverberations created from the bass hitting all other surfaces before the sound reaches the listening position which will smear out the signal and it will not sound as tight and punchy.
