What Does XLR Stand For?

Origin and Meaning

The term “XLR” doesn’t stand for anything specific today, though it has historical roots tied to the connector’s design. Originally developed by Cannon Electric, the connector was first called the “Cannon X” series. Later versions with a Latch and Rubber compound were labeled as “XL” and “XLR” respectively. This design evolution was aimed at improving the durability and connection reliability of the cables.
