Subwoofer 1S / 1V – Which Way Should the Driver Point?

Article summary

  • Position your subwoofer with the logo facing the listening area for optimal low-frequency coupling.
  • Experiment with driver orientation to discover what works best for your space.
  • Facing drivers towards the listening position can enhance midbass dynamics.
  • Use a higher crossover frequency for potentially improved performance.
  • Upgrade your audio experience with the 1723 Subwoofer 1S for precision and impact.

Normally we suggest using our subwoofers with the logo facing the listening position. That means the driver will face the right side of the room. We find that this typically couples best with the room in the lower frequencies, although the wavelengths at the usable frequency range will distribute in a 360-degree pattern all around the subwoofer.

You can absolutely experiment in your setup to see if there are other ways that work better. By facing the drivers directly towards the listening position instead, you may feel it has a slight advantage if you use a higher crossover frequency, where the upper midbass will have slightly better dynamics.

Frequently asked questions

How should I position my Arendal Sound subwoofer?

We recommend placing the subwoofer with the logo facing the listening position. This typically allows for better coupling with the room's lower frequencies.

Can I play around with the placement of my subwoofer?

Absolutely! Feel free to experiment with different positions to find what works best for your setup.

Why does the subwoofer's logo face the listening position?

Facing the logo towards the listener ensures that the driver aligns well with the room, enhancing performance in the lower frequencies.

What happens if I face the drivers towards the listening position?

This might offer better dynamics for higher crossover frequencies, particularly in the upper midbass range.

Does the subwoofer's sound distribution change with positioning?

Yes, while the lower frequencies couple best with the recommended position, sound wavelengths distribute in a 360-degree pattern around the subwoofer.

Is there an optimal crossover frequency for subwoofer placement?

Using a higher crossover frequency may yield slight advantages in dynamics if you face the drivers toward the listening position.

Can room acoustics affect subwoofer performance?

Yes, your room's acoustics play a significant role in how the subwoofer's sound will be perceived, so testing different placements is encouraged.

What are the benefits of experimenting with my subwoofer setup?

Experimenting allows you to customize the sound to your preferences, potentially uncovering placements that enhance your listening experience.
