I Have a Receiver With Audyssey and the Bass Is Lacking

June 14, 2024

I just ran Audyssey calibration and the sound is very flat, what gives?

First, it’s important to make sure that the placement of both speakers and subs is correct and optimal.

If everything is placed and set up correctly, there is a good possibility that Audyssey will apply an EQ preset after calibration. This is located under MultiEQ x32. Some receivers will use “Flat” as default, which essentially will remove a lot of the bass and fullness.

Okay, what can I do about it?

The solution is to select a different EQ preset with more emphasis on the bass. Our ears are less sensitive to lower frequencies, so we actually need more bass compared to mids and highs for us to perceive the sound as “flat”. If different presets are locked behind a paywall, you can simply deactivate the x32 multi EQ presets.
