What Are the Benefits of a Soft Dome Tweeter?

June 14, 2024

Is one tweeter design “better” than the rest?

Our speakers employ a soft dome tweeter, offering several audio reproduction benefits.

  • Smoother and extended high-frequency response: soft domes can produce high-frequency sounds with clarity and accuracy. They will sound smooth and detailed, providing a more natural sound reproduction. Balanced is the name of the game!
  • Reduced distortion: compared to other tweeter designs, soft domes will have lower distortion. We don’t like unnatural coloration when watching our favorite movies or listening to music, and soft dome tweeters will remove any unwanted artifacts.
  • Wider dispersion: typically, soft dome tweeters will have a wider dispersion pattern. This has many benefits including the sound covering a larger area (in general) and a much larger sweet spot – the sound will remain balanced and consistent across multiple seating positions. If you’re stuck on the end seat at your friend’s home theater, you won’t be missing out!
  • Improved power handling: dynamics is a keyword in this hobby. We all want dynamics! Well, soft dome tweeters are designed to handle higher power levels. What does this mean? They can easily handle the dynamic peaks found in movies and music, without distortion or damage. Soft domes can handle the demands that various content can place on a speaker.

Overall, a soft dome tweeter can contribute to a much more enjoyable listening experience – it will be more accurate and life-like while being balanced, smooth, and detailed.

Lastly, our speakers also employ a waveguide, which benefits the tweeter even further. The waveguide’s “job” is to take an already existing tweeter and provide refinements to its performance. Using a waveguide, we can ensure that the highs are more evenly broadcast, while also providing a better stereo image. For more on our waveguide specifically, click here: 1723 Waveguide Tweeter
