What Speaker Cables Do You Recommend?

June 14, 2024

Cables can be a controversial topic in the audio industry, but when approached scientifically, it is a simple topic based on a few factors. Let’s jump in.

The Same Basic Principles

Like good speakers, good cables are neutral in sonic signature. To put it bluntly, they “get outta the way” and let the sound come through as intended. No need for exotic materials. As long as it is pure copper and not a mix with Aluminium, you will be absolutely fine.

Resistance is Futile

The longer the cable or speaker wire, the thicker it should be. This ensures that the signal, or power, is always available in sufficient amounts. We do not recommend using anything less than 2×2,5mm² or 14 AWG even for short cables on our speakers. For cable lengths over 10m or 35 feet, we recommend 2×4,0mm² or 11 AWG.

Bling-Factor

There is nothing wrong with paying more for a good-looking cable; just make sure it is not a weak link in your system as some expensive cables measure worse than much less expensive brands.
Good connections are also key, as some manufacturers use very poor connectors that break or don’t sit tight in the terminal. If you can: try it before you buy! Absolutely nothing wrong with getting the cheapest option if the quality checks out.
